What type of paint finish do we use?

We use powder coating. Powder coating is a high-quality finish that offers superior protection and durability for metal surfaces. It is a dry finishing process that involves applying a free-flowing, dry powder material to the surface of the metal. The powder is then heated and fused into a uniform film. This process creates an attractive, durable finish that is resistant to corrosion, abrasion, and UV damage. Powder coating also provides a wide range of colors and textures to choose from, allowing you to customize the look of your product. With its superior protection and aesthetic appeal, powder coating provides an ideal finish for any metal surface.

How to install a wall mounted trellis

Quick Wall Trellis Install Guide

Elevate your vertical garden in minutes. Our wall-mounted metal trellis features a 3" standoff to ensure maximum airflow for your plants and protection for your home's exterior.

The Basics

  • Time: 15–30 Minutes
  • Crew: 1 person (2 helpful)
  • Hardware: Included! We provide color-matched hardware for a seamless finish.

Tools You’ll Need

  • Power drill
  • ⅜" wrench (or impact driver)
  • Bubble level
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil

3 Easy Steps

1. Level & Mark
Hold your trellis against the wall. Use the measuring tape to center it and the bubble level to ensure it’s straight. Mark the four 3/8" bracket holes with your pencil.

2. Drill
Set the trellis aside. Using your power drill with a 3/8 drill bit to drill the holes at each pencil mark.

Tip: Use a masonry bit for brick/stone or a standard bit for wood/siding.

3. Secure
Align the trellis with your holes. Use your 3/8" wrench or impact driver to install the S2N color-matched bolts. Tighten until snug.

How do stand alone trellises work & how to install?

Once you choose your trellis height and width, we’ll prompt you to select the length of your mounting stakes.

To keep your setup simple and sturdy, here is how our stand alone trellises work:

The Height Rule

The trellis height you select is for the frame only. The stakes are welded to the bottom and add to that total length.

  • Example: If you order a 5-foot trellis with 2-foot stakes, your trellis will be 7 feet tall from the bottom of the stakes to the very top.

Built to Last

Our stakes are made from the same heavy-duty material as your trellis frame. We weld them directly to both bottom edges to ensure the stability of your vertical garden

Three Ways to Anchor

Depending on where your trellis is going, you can choose from three stake styles:

  • In-Ground: Sturdy stakes meant to be driven directly into soil or garden beds.
  • Concrete Footers: Stakes designed to be set into wet concrete for a permanent, "unbudgeable" install.
  • Base Plates: Flat plates welded to the bottom of the stakes so you can bolt the trellis directly onto existing concrete patios or floors.

What type of wall can you mount a trellis on and what do the trellises come with?

To make install a breeze, we include all the hardware you need to mount your trellis. This includes:

Color matched mounting screws appropriate for your type of wall

Our signature 3 inches wall brackets. These prevents mold growth on your siding and gives climbing vines the space and airflow they need to thrive.

You can mount our trellises on:

  • Brick / Masonry

Pro-tip: Drill into the mortar (the "stuff" between bricks) for an easier install and cleaner look.

  • Wood / Siding

Pro-tip: Use a standard drill bit. We recommend finding a stud for maximum "heavy-duty" support.

  • Fiber Cement Often called Hardie Board.

Pro-tip: Use a masonry or cobalt bit, as this material is much harder than standard wood.

  • Stucco

Pro-tip: Use a masonry bit and the anchors provided. Be gentle to avoid chipping the finish.

  • Vinyl Siding

Pro-tip: Standard vinyl is "hollow." Drill your pilot hole and use the provided anchors to ensure the trellis stays rock-solid.

Finding the right trellis size

Choosing the right size and shape for your metal trellis frame can significantly impact your garden's overall aesthetics and your plants' growth. This guide will help you accurately measure for a trellis, ensuring you invest in the perfect fit for your gardening needs.

Why Size Matters in Choosing a Metal Trellis Frame

A metal trellis frame serves as a supportive structure for your plants, guiding their growth and helping them flourish. The right size and shape not only enhance your garden's beauty but also ensure healthier plant growth. Too small a frame may restrict your plants, while an overly large one might leave too much empty space, affecting your garden's visual balance.

Step-by-Step Guide to Measure for Trellis Frame

  1. Assess Your Space: Start by evaluating the area where you plan to install the trellis frame. Consider the amount of sunlight, wind direction, and proximity to other plants or structures.
  2. Measure the Area: Use a tape measure to record the width and height of the space. Remember, these measurements will determine the size of your trellis frame.
  3. Consider Your Plants: Different plants have different growth patterns. Some climb vertically, while others spread horizontally. Keep this in mind when deciding on the shape of your trellis.
  4. Choose Your Trellis: Based on your measurements and the type of plants you have, choose a metal trellis frame that fits your needs. Our frames are not only cost-effective but also durable and aesthetically pleasing, making them a great addition to any garden.

Investing time in measuring for a metal trellis frame ensures you create a thriving space for your plants to grow. It's a small effort that yields significant results in terms of plant health and garden aesthetics.

Create Your Dream Garden Today

Don't let your plants' potential go untapped because of an ill-fitted trellis. Invest in a metal trellis frame that supports and enhances your plants' growth. With our easy-to-follow guide, you're well on your way to creating a thriving garden. Start measuring today, and let your garden reach its full potential with the right trellis frame.

What are some plants I can grow on a trellis?

Our 3-inch standoff design is made to changes how your plants grow. Most trellises sit flat against the house, which can smother vines and trap moisture. Our bracket designed to help your plant grip on and allow airflow that climbing plants need. Here are the best varieties for your new vertical garden:

Clematis, Star Jasmine, and Honeysuckle
These plants love to wrap their stems or leaves around everything they touch. Because our trellis sits 3 inches off the wall, these vines can easily reach behind the bars and latch onto the trellis. This creates a much fuller, 3D look compared to flat trellises.

Climbing Roses and Bougainvillea
These plants can get heavy and woody as they age. They don't naturally "climb" on their own; they need a sturdy structure they can be tied to. Our heavy-duty powder-coated steel and welded brackets are built to support that extra weight without bending or sagging. Plus, the extra airflow helps prevent common rose diseases like black spot.

Mandevilla and Morning Glories
If you want a fast growing green living wall, these are exactly what your looking for. They are lightweight and grow incredibly quickly filling your trellis with stunning green foliage.

English Ivy & Creeping Fig
If you love the look of ivy but hate the idea of roots digging into your siding or brick, our trellis is the perfect compromise. By training the ivy onto the trellis, you get the lush green look while the 3" offset keeps the "clinging" roots away from your home’s actual surface.

Pro-Tip for New Growth

When you first plant your vines, they might need a little direction. Use a small piece of garden twine or a soft tie to gently secure the first few stems to the bottom rungs.

Trellis upkeep

Regular Cleaning:
Dust & dirt may accumulate on the surface over time. Clean your trellis regularly using a soft cloth or sponge and mild soapy water. Please avoid using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or abrasive scrubbers, as they can damage the powder coating.

Gentle Scrubbing:
For tougher dirt or stains, you can gently scrub the trellis with a soft-bristle brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue from the soap.

Avoid Pressure Washing:
While powder coated surfaces are generally durable, avoid using high-pressure washers as they can chip or peel the coating. Stick to gentle hand washing methods.

Rust Prevention:
Powder coating provides good protection against rust, but scratches or chips in the coating can expose the metal to moisture. Promptly touch up any damaged areas with matching paint to prevent rust from spreading.

Touch-Ups:
Keep a touch-up paint specifically designed for powder coated surfaces on hand. If you notice any small scratches or chips, touch up those areas to maintain the coating's integrity.

Inspect Regularly:
Perform routine visual inspections of your trellis. Look for signs of chipping, peeling, or rust. Address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.

Vine and Plant Growth:
If your trellis supports climbing plants, regularly trim them to prevent excessive growth that could damage the trellis or obstruct the view.

Seasonal Maintenance:
Perform a more thorough cleaning and inspection at the beginning and end of each outdoor season. This will help identify any issues that may have developed over time.

By following these caring instructions, you can enjoy the beauty and functionality of your powder coated metal trellis for many years. Remember that regular maintenance is key to preserving its appearance and structural integrity.
